How much medicine should you take?

Your dose is calculated by weight. That means you get an individualised amount of medicine – calculated for your body.1,2 And because your treatment is given on demand for acute attacks, you take it only when you need it.1,2

The recommended dose is 20 IU/kg body weight.1,2 Your HAE care team can help you calculate the right amount for you.

How should you store your medicine?

You should not store your medicine above 25°C and it should not be frozen.1,2 It remains stable until the expiry date stated on the packaging and vial label. Wherever you store it, keep it protected from light.1,2

Are there any side effects?

Like all medicines, your treatment can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects reported by people treated with Berinert were1.2:

If you are concerned about any reactions or possible side effects, contact your HAE care team immediately. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet. Please read the ‘possible side effects’ section of the package leaflet carefully.

Allergic reactions may occur with this medicine.1,2 Please stop using this medicine immediately and contact your HAE care team if you have any of the following symptoms: dizziness, wheeziness, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the face, rash or hives.
